Drug Free Sport NZ collects both urine and blood for testing. Many prohibited substances can be identified in urine, but some substances are better identified through a blood test.  

Test results for some athletes are also gathered to form an Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) which involves the monitoring of selected biomarkers that may indirectly reveal the effects of doping.
